Robert Davis, MD

The BeHealthy team consists of expert physicians, dietitians, nurses and psychologists who use a comprehensive and patient-centered approach to health and wellness. Our team has extensive training in functional, integrative and nutritional medicine and specialized training in using food as medical therapy.  Whether in clinical practice, classroom, or workplace, preventing and managing obesity effectively is complex and requires a team approach.

As head of The Davis Clinic, Dr. Robert Davis specializes in laparoscopic bariatric and general surgery. He and his son, Dr. Garth Davis, have performed over 2,500 bariatric procedures since 2002, and their expertise in the field of bariatric medicine is world-renowned.

Born in South Africa, Dr. Davis attended the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa, and graduated in 1963. He pursued his post-graduate education in London and Edinburgh in Great Britain, New York, Galveston and Houston, and was certified by the American Board of Surgery in 1973 and re-certified in 1987, 1997, and 2007. In addition, Dr. Davis has written many scientific papers and made presentations at numerous scientific and medical meetings. He is a member of numerous medical and surgical societies, and has been awarded certificates by the American Medical Association for continuing education.

Dr. Davis is a past Associate Clinical Professor of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine and is Past-Deputy Chief of the Department of Surgery at The Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), and the Royal College of Surgeons (RCS), and is a member in good standing of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) and the International Federal for the Surgery of Obesity (IFSO).

Dr. Davis can be seen currently in re-runs on the primetime docu-reality medical series, BIG MEDICINE with his son and surgical practice partner, Dr. Garth Davis, which airs on various cable channels nationwide.  In addition, BIG MEDICINE is currently running in over 300 countries around the world.

Garth Davis, MD

As a leader in the field of bariatric medicine, Dr. Garth Davis was again recently recognized as a Texas Monthly Super Doc and stars with his father, Dr. Robert Davis, on the hit show docu-reality medical series, BIG MEDICINE. His recently published bestseller, The Expert’s Guide to Weight Loss Surgery is available in bookstores nationwide or can be purchased online via our eStore.

Dr. Davis graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Texas in Austin where he was the Student Government President. He was also recognized as the most outstanding student at UT. Dr. Davis went on to attend medical school at Baylor College of Medicine and graduated in the top 10 percent of his class. In addition, he was inducted to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Dr. Davis completed his surgical residency at the prestigious University of Michigan in Ann Arbor where he was elected to the position of Chief Administrative Resident. While in Michigan, Dr. Davis underwent extensive training in general surgical disciplines, specializing in laparoscopic procedures. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. Dr. Davis is a recognized expert in initial bariatric procedures as well as revisional bariatric surgery, and is frequently asked to give lectures to both patient and physician audiences alike.

Dr. Tony Primomo

Dr. John A. (Tony) Primomo is a native Texan. Born in San Antonio, Texas, he knew he wanted to complete his education in this great state and he decided to attend the University of Texas at Austin, where he graduated with a B.A. in philosophy. After completing his B.A., he enrolled and attended medical school at UT Health Science Center in San Antonio. He completed his residency at the University of Rochester, New York, where he received numerous teaching awards.  Dr. Primomo’s fellowship focused on minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. In addition to completing his fellowship in bariatric surgery, Dr. Primomo has acquired expert fellowship training in advanced laparoscopic surgeries to include treatment for reflux disease, as well as minimally invasive hernia surgery, and minimally invasive treatment of endocrine and hematologic disorders.  He is certified by the American Board of Surgery and a Member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.  Dr. Primomo is married to his lovely wife, Brooke, and is a welcome addition to The Davis Clinic.

Jamie J. Carr, BSN, RN, CBN

Jamie Carr joined The Davis Clinic as the Clinical Director in February 2008. With over 14 years of healthcare experience, Jamie has spent the last 13 years of her career focused on bariatric medicine and the treatment of obesity. Her background is in developing bariatric programs, and she has been involved with outcomes establishment and measurement, patient support programs, critical pathways, protocols, and bariatric team development. In 2009-2010, she worked on the design and buildout of our 8,000 square foot clinic and her involvement on that project brought great satisfaction to her personally and professionally. Jamie continues to look for ways to streamline processes, enhance our patient education materials, and she oversees our support groups and behavior modification programs, as well as the medically-supervised weight loss program.

Jamie is a certified bariatric nurse. She served as the National Chair for the ASMBS Foundation’s annual Walk from Obesity for over four years, and is a past-member of the board for the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Foundation. She has served on the Public and Professional Education Committee for the ASMBS, has written numerous articles for WLS Lifestyles magazine, including a cover story with the former Surgeon General of the United States of America, and currently serves on the Editorial Advisory Board for WLS Lifestyles magazine. In addition, she has served on the ASMBS RN Credentialing Task Force and, most recently, as a faculty member for the Certified Bariatric Nurse Preparatory Course. She serves on the RN Certification Development Committee and chairs the Marketing subcommittee. She is also a past member of the BariMD Advisory Board. She currently serves as an Advisory Board Member for Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc. and is working on the development of their comprehensive portal modules to provide exceptional tools and resources to bariatric professionals across the country.

Jamie Carr has collaborated with bariatric industry manufactures as an educational consultant, has been a featured speaker at national conferences, and has been featured on the Discovery Health Channel on two one-hour specials regarding the treatment of obesity in America.

Jamie is a strong proponent of research and education, believing in the empowerment of the weight loss surgery patient. She has worked with thousands of bariatric patients and has a special interest in post-operative micro-nutrient supplementation to ensure patients thrive and remain healthy after any bariatric procedure.

Dana McDonald 
Dietitian - BeHealthy Program

Dana joined The Davis Clinic in 2013.  She will be facilitating and further developing our BeHealthy program. 

She is a Registered Dietitian (RD), Licensed Dietitian (LD), and a Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC) with over 7 years of professional experience working with pediatric and adult patients within the Texas Medical Center.  Dana’s expertise includes the areas of sports nutrition, weight management, nutrition and educational support with bariatric surgery patients, nutrition support, and general disease prevention and wellness.

Dana participated in competitive soccer throughout her adolescent years and was ultimately rewarded a full soccer scholarship to McNeese State University, Lake Charles, Louisiana (2000). Upon completion of her soccer career, Dana moved back to Houston to complete her undergraduate studies at the University of Houston, Houston, Texas.

 She has a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Human Nutrition and Foods.   She completed her dietetic training at the University of Houston Dietetic Internship program within the Texas Medical Center and has served as an officer of multiple professional organizations, including the Houston Pediatric Nutrition Group and the Houston Area Dietetic Association. In addition to licensure as a RD, Dana is licensed as a Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC).

Dana’s knowledge and expertise in the field of wellness, nutrition and fitness make her the perfect fit to our BeHealthy program and she is an excellent addition to the team.

Gabrielle Rodriguez, MA, LPC 

Gabrielle works for PSY-Med, Inc. as a therapist and recently joined The Davis Clinic providing psychiatric assessments and counseling for patients.  She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and graduated with her Masters in Psychology from Houston Baptist University.  Her therapeutic approaches are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy along with integration of different therapy models.  Gabrielle also received training and certification in 5-PATH® Hypnotherapy enabling her to address emotional issues efficiently and effectively.  Having worked in the fitness industry for 21 years, she believes in the importance of proper nutrition and exercise in order to be and feel one best.  She is also a proponent of the mind-body connection believing one can use their thoughts to positively influence some of the body’s physical responses, thereby decreasing stress and living a more mindful and fulfilling existence.
